Spatial Data Resources

Some links to basic spatial data resources I've found useful. Most of these are more for creating simple thematic maps for proposals and papers, rather than any serious analysis. Hopefully they help someone:

Global Administrative Areas: Shapefiles for all countries at various administrative levels

Hydro1K Elevation Derivative Database: Elevation, flow, drainage basins, etc., all derived from the USGS GTOPO30 Digital elevation model

Other Database Resources

These are links to survey and census results of varying spatial and temporal coverage:

Brazilian Agricultural and Ranching Census: Tables broken down by município, state and demographic for various aspects of production. Results for the 2000 census may currently be more complete than for 2006.

World Rice Statistics: A collection of data on rice production collected by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). My understanding is that data is gradually being digitized and this database should grow over time.

Household survey database (IRRI): Household survey data accompanying IRRI's fieldwork projects, also under development.

ICPSR Database: A bank of social research data contributed by researchers from all over, maintained by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan.
